December Newsletter

Happy Holidays from TnSHA!?? As the year is winding down, your TnSHA Board of Directors has been busy at work wrapping up 2013 and planning for an exciting 2014.?? We can’t wait to get our TnSHA season underway and reunite with our stock horse family!

End of the Year Bash Pic 1The 2013 End of the Year Bash was a great success.?? Thanks to Fran Bowers for all her hard work in making that event happen!?? Participants enjoyed a great trail ride and exciting mounted scavenger hunt before a fantastic dinner at Catoosa Ridge Stables.?? The evening even included a costume contest.?? Taking top honors for their vintage western wear were Tonilynn Cline (Youth), Rick Drake (Male), and Dee Hess (Female). We???re told Dee???s costume really wow???ed the men of Soco Media and Design, who served as judges!?? Thanks also to Soco Media and Design for the great pictures of the weekend as well as our members and their horses.?? Pictures can be viewed and ordered on their website.

Perhaps the highlight of the night was the presentation of the 2013 TnSHA High Point Awards. Thanks to our outstanding Awards committee for working diligently to assure great prizes for our winners! Champions received beautiful engraved stirrups, while Reserve Champions brought home engraved spurs. Given that more than 75 people competed in TnSHA shows in 2014, winning these awards is a great accomplishment!

Tennessee was well represented at the Region 2 Showdown, hosted by Stock Horse of Dixie in Unadilla, GA November 22-24. MTSU Stock Horse Team member Alyssa Greer showed MTSU-owned, Shakers Cow Gal, to a Reserve All-around finish in the Novice and a class win in the pleasure, while MTSU Coach, Holly Spooner claimed the open pleasure championship aboard A Major League Star. SHOD hosted an excellent regional show and derby event and I would encourage our TN members to support their shows in 2014.

End of the Year Bash Pic 2Finally, the TnSHA board hosted a board meeting in Cookeville, TN on December 8.?? The meeting closed business for the 2013 year and served as a planning session for 2014.?? In initial planning for the 2014 show season, the board is soliciting bids to host shows with plans for at least 4 ASHA-sanctioned shows.?? We hope to have the dates finalized early in the New Year.?? We are working on facilitating a show in Eastern TN in addition to our traditional locations. We plan to continue offering an Intro division for those new to ASHA and plan to improve class and all-around awards.?? Also, stay tuned for contests for our members for soliciting sponsorships and new members!?? Complete TnSHA Board Meeting minutes can be found on the TnSHA website.?? The TnSHA board meeting concluded with the election of officers (shown below).?? Feel free to contact any officers or board members at any time with your questions or concerns.
